TTFB test from every region

Enter a URL and each of our ten probe regions requests it once and times every phase: DNS lookup, TCP connect, TLS handshake and the wait for the first byte. You get a result link you can share. No account required.

How this check works

Each region makes one fresh request, with no connection reused and nothing cached, so every phase is measured from scratch. First byte is the time from sending the request to the first byte of the response, which is mostly your server’s own work. Total covers the whole response, including any redirects.

Private and reserved addresses are refused, and only the default web ports and 8080 and 8443 are allowed.

Where the time goes

Slow DNS in one region points at your DNS provider’s reach there. Slow connect and TLS everywhere far from your server means distance, which a CDN fixes. A slow first byte in every region is the server itself: database queries, cold starts or an origin behind a cache that missed. A good first byte is under 200ms from nearby regions and under 600ms from far ones.

Want this timing on every check?

RealUptime Monitor records the same DNS, connect, TLS and first-byte breakdown on every check, from four regions (US-East, US-West, Europe, and Asia-Pacific) on Free, so you can see which phase got slower and when, and get an alert when the site goes down.
