Every check, incident, issue, and page below is invented example data, not a real customer's account. Nothing on this page can be edited: this is a read-only preview of the four RealUptime products (Status, Monitor, Errors, Outages) working together on one account, not a live account.

Status: incident and postmortem

Example data

Elevated checkout latency, EU region

Resolved

Affected: Checkout flow

  1. investigatingAug 28, 2:02 PM

We are seeing elevated response times on the checkout API from our Frankfurt region and are investigating.

  2. identifiedAug 28, 2:19 PM

A connection pool exhaustion on the EU checkout replica is the cause. A fix is being deployed.

  3. monitoringAug 28, 2:41 PM

The fix is live and latency has returned to normal. We are monitoring before marking this resolved.

  4. resolvedAug 28, 3:10 PM

Latency has stayed normal for 30 minutes. This incident is resolved.

Postmortem

The EU checkout replica exhausted its database connection pool during a routine traffic increase, adding 250 to 400ms of latency to checkout requests for 68 minutes.

Impact

Checkout requests routed through the Frankfurt region were degraded, not failed, for 68 minutes. No requests were dropped and no orders were lost.

Root cause

A connection pool size left at its default after a schema migration meant the EU replica could not keep pace with a routine traffic increase.

Remediation
  • Raised the EU connection pool ceiling to match the other regions.
  • Added an alert on pool saturation before it reaches request latency.
  • Added connection pool sizing to the schema migration checklist.
