Downtime cost calculator

Enter your average monthly revenue and how many minutes of downtime you’re pricing, and we’ll estimate what that downtime costs. No account required.

Pick a starting point from a common target:

How this is computed

We divide your monthly revenue by the minutes in an average month (365 ÷ 12 days) to get a revenue-per-minute figure, then multiply it by the downtime minutes you enter. That’s the whole formula: no assumptions about which customers you’d lose permanently versus which would just come back later, no brand-damage multiplier, nothing we can’t show you the arithmetic for.

Real revenue is rarely spread evenly across a month. An outage during your busiest hour costs more than this estimate; one at 3am on a slow day costs less. Use this as a starting number for a conversation, not a precise loss figure.

Pricing an SLA target instead of a real incident

Not sure how many downtime minutes to enter? The preset buttons above fill in the monthly downtime a common SLA target allows (99%, 99.9%, 99.99%, and so on), computed the same way the SLA / uptime calculator pages compute it. That tells you what a target costs if a vendor uses every minute the target allows, worst case, not what any particular vendor actually did.

The real fix is fewer minutes, not a bigger spreadsheet

Knowing what downtime costs makes the case for catching it faster. RealUptime Monitor checks your endpoints from four live regions on a schedule and alerts you the moment one fails, so the number above stays a hypothetical instead of a monthly bill.
