At 12:01am Pacific this morning, RealUptime went up on Product Hunt. Our listing on AlternativeTo was approved the same day, and SaaSHub is live too. After a few weeks of building in the open with a handful of early users, this is the public launch.
What RealUptime is
Two products, one bill, aimed at the same person: whoever gets paged when the site goes down.
RealUptime Status is public status pages and incident communication. The design goal, covered at length in Status pages that can't lie, is that the tempting lies are structurally unavailable. Incident copy is built from measured state, not typed into a text box mid-outage, and the page shows what each probe region actually sees.
RealUptime Monitor is uptime monitoring: HTTP, TCP, DNS, and more, probed from four regions (Virginia, California, Frankfurt, Tokyo); the check types and regions are documented at /docs/checks. A failure is confirmed from a second vantage point before you get paged, so one probe having a bad minute does not become your 3 a.m. problem. There is a free tier that stays free.
Everything downstream of the probes is public where it can be. Our internet weather page publishes the latency we measure across about 190 well-known services, hourly, with a JSON feed, and how we measure is documented alongside the data. If we have not measured something, we say so.
Why launch on directories at all
We do not run ads. The bet, stated plainly, is that a monitoring product should be findable the way engineers actually look for one: searching for alternatives to the tool that just annoyed them, comparing options on AlternativeTo and SaaSHub, reading real measurement data. So the launch is not a moment so much as a set of places we are now listed, accurately, with claims we can back with the product itself.
If you compare us against the incumbents on those sites, the summary is: multi-region checks and honest status pages at indie prices, from a small company where the person answering support email is the person who wrote the probe.
The launch discount
Through September 30, the code PRODUCTHUNT at checkout takes 25% off any plan for your first 3 months.
If you try it and something is off, tell us. The fastest way to shape a product this young is to complain to it early.
