New section: Advertising on the Outages pages

The public Outages pages show ads served by Google. Ads are not shown to visitors in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, or where we cannot tell where you are.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve these ads. We ask Google for non-personalized ads. They are chosen from the content of the page you are viewing and your general location, such as your city, and are not based on your past visits to this site or other sites. Google still uses cookies with these ads to limit how often you see an ad, to report on ads in aggregate, and to detect invalid traffic.

When an Outages page shows an ad, your browser sends Google your IP address, details of your browser and device, the address of the page, and Google's cookie identifiers. Google and its advertising partners may collect information about your activity on this site and on other sites over time. How Google uses that information is described in “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services”. Google's advertising partners are listed in Google's published list of ad technology providers.

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google in Google's Ads Settings, and from other vendors at www.aboutads.info. You can block or delete advertising cookies in your browser settings. You can turn ads off for this browser with the "Advertising" choice below.

How we respond to Do Not Track signals. Our site does not change what it does when a browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal. When a browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we do not load ads for that browser.

New entries in the cookie list

  • A preference cookie, named ru_ads_optout, that remembers that you turned ads off for this browser, for one year, set when you turn them off.
  • Advertising cookies, on the Outages pages, where ads are shown. Google's ad code may set these on realuptime.io: __gads (13 months), __gpi (13 months), __gpi_optout (13 months), __eoi (6 months), __gsas (3 months), FPAU (90 days), GED_PLAYLIST_ACTIVITY (until you close the browser) and TESTCOOKIESENABLED (60 seconds). They hold identifiers Google uses to limit how often an ad is shown, to report on ads and to detect invalid traffic. When it serves an ad, Google may also set or read cookies on its own domains, such as IDE (24 months), NID (6 months), DSID (2 weeks) and test_cookie (15 minutes) on google.com and doubleclick.net.
